Designed by Kisho Kurokawa and completed in 1972, the Nakagin Capsule Tower was the only surviving example of Metabolism architecture before its demolition in 2022. Its visionary modular design, featuring 140 detachable capsules, transcended time, yet it could not withstand half a century of the elements.

Editorial

The Nakagin Capsule Tower stands quietly, watching the flow of time against the bustling backdrop of Ginza. Its uniquely shaped capsules, shyly nestled among towering skyscrapers, evoke a sense of beings from the future. As morning breaks, sunlight glimmers off the capsules' exteriors, casting golden reflections. During lunch hours, the laughter of businessmen and tourists creates a lively contrast to the tower's distinctive design, while the capsules' windows frame the captivating streets of Ginza, each shadow hinting at untold stories. As dusk descends, the tower emerges in soft twilight, its beauty reminiscent of stars gathering in the night. In this serene space, the capsules hold echoes of dreams and hopes, quietly affirming their existence as they endure in the city's ever-changing landscape.
